A mud pump is a reciprocating piston/plunger device designed to circulate drilling fluid under high pressure (up to 7,500 psi (52,000 kPa) ) down the drill string and back up the annulus. Mud pump is a large reciprocating pump used to circulate the mud (drilling fluid) on a drilling rig. It is an important part of the oil well drilling equipment. Classification According to the acting type Mud Pumps can be divided into single-acting pump and double-acting pump according to the completion times of the suction and drainage acting in one cycle of the piston's reciprocating motion. Composition The "normal" Mud Pump consists of two main sub-assemblies, the fluid end and the power end. Fluid End The fluid end produces the pumping process with valves, pistons, and liners. Because these components are high-wear items, modern pumps are designed to allow quick replacement of these parts.. To reduce severe vibration caused by the pumping process, these pumps incorporate both a suction and discharge pulsation dampener. These are connected to the inlet and outlet of the fluid end. Power End The power end converts the rotation of the drive shaft to the reciprocating motion of the pistons. In most cases a crosshead crank gear is used for this. Zirconia liner is made of zirconia(ZrO2) material inner sleeve and steel material outshell. Zirconia liner can offer lifetime cost savings, significantly longer service, better performance and safer operation than sleeves made of more commonly used chrome iron or alumina ceramic. What`s the advantages of zirconia liner? A. Piston Wear The special hardness and exceptional wear resistance of zirconia translates into longer service from the urethane and rubber pistons that move at high speeds and under tremendous pressure inside the mud pump liners. With true bores and zirconia liners honed to a fine 4 RMS finish, piston wear/consumption can be reduced by as much as 75%. B. Labor and Rig Downtime Eastland`s zirconia liners ave service lifetime over 4000 hours which can reduce the labor cost during the fluid end expendables replacement and rig downtime. The costs cannot be forecast in event of breakdowns, emergencies or that are mud pump liner-related. C. Other Considerations All drilling operations require a plentiful and continuous flow of water to minimize heat build up that could burn up pistons and/or cause bore wear. Use of a zirconia liner does not require any alteration of the driller`s existing lubrication system, unlike an alumina liner that requires a larger water supply.
